Why Do Your Windows Foggy? We Look At The Causes And Solutions

05.03.2025

Fogged windows are a common problem that can cause discomfort and spoil the appearance of the room. Many people think that this is due to poor-quality windows, but in fact there may be several reasons. In this article, we will analyze why your windows fog up and how to fix it.

The main reasons for fogged windows

1. High humidity in the room

Most often, condensation on the glass appears due to high humidity inside the room. This is especially true in winter, when the temperature difference between inside and outside is large.

Causes:

Cooking, washing, drying clothes inside the room.

Poor ventilation.

Increased number of plants in the room.

Presence of an aquarium or other sources of moisture.

Solution: Ventilate the room regularly (at least 2-3 times a day). Use a hood in the kitchen and bathroom. Install a dehumidifier or check the ventilation system.

2. Incorrect air circulation

When warm air does not circulate properly, cold areas of the window can collect condensation.

Causes:

Closed curtains or blinds prevent air circulation.

The heating radiator is located far from the window or is covered by furniture.

Poor ventilation of the window profile.

Solution: Do not block radiators and convectors. Leave a small gap between the window sill and curtains. Use the micro-ventilation mode in plastic windows.

3. Single-chamber double-glazed windows

Old or low-quality double-glazed windows do not retain heat well, which leads to cooling of the glass and condensation.

Solution: Replace the windows with double- or triple-glazed windows (for example, Thermo 98 or Thermo 105 Engelberg). Make sure that the windows are installed correctly and there are no cold bridges.

4. Poor quality of window installation

Even the most expensive windows can fog up if they are installed incorrectly.

Installation errors:

Incorrect insulation of slopes.

Poor sealing of joints.

Gaps between the frame and the wall.

Solution: Check the tightness of the installation. Contact professionals for diagnostics. Use high-quality seals and installation materials.

5. Fogging between the glass panes of a double-glazed window

If condensation appears inside the double-glazed window, it means that its tightness is broken.

Solution: If the window is under warranty, contact the installation company. If the warranty period has expired, replace the double-glazed window with a new one. Choose high-quality double-glazed windows with factory sealing.

Conclusion

Window fogging is not a death sentence! Most often, the problem can be solved by ventilation, adjusting humidity, and checking the quality of the double-glazed windows. If the problem persists, you should think about replacing the windows with modern IMZO models with high thermal insulation.
